1915-S Panama-Pacific $50 Octagonal. PCGS graded MS-65. A superlative example of the "King of Commemorative Coins." This beauty is a numismatic prize. The surface textures are smooth, spot-free, and frosty throughout. The mellow orange color gold gives added appeal. Premium examples of this coin are very difficult to come by, gems are almost non existant. PCGS has graded but 5 at this level and none higher.

1915-S Panama-Pacific $50 Round. PCGS graded MS-65. A superb frosty mint gem, spot-free and spectacular in every way. Here is your opportunity to purchase the ultimate in commemorative coinage. All of America's fairs and expositions are built around a central theme. For 1915, the fair organizers chose the discovery of the Pacific Ocean and the completion of the Panama Canal, in 1914, as their themes.

Lot 918
1915-S Panama Pacific Exposition, $50 Octagonal. A choice example with only a touch of wear on the highest points, the fields, rims and devices are nice and clean. An opportunity to purchase a very rare coin with a mintage of just 645 pieces. Curiously, this coin is more difficult to obtain in circulated condition than in Mint State, as most were saved at the time of issue. PCGS graded AU-53.

1915 Copper Frame for the complete Panama-Pacific Set. An original Shreve & Company of San Francisco Panama Pacific Set. Choice Extremely Fine. Nice color on the ribbon and in top condition for one of these. The frame includes places for the Half Dollar, One Dollar Gold, Quarter Eagle, and both $50 gold pieces. Scarce and difficult to find in such original and choice condition. Obviously, this frame has spent most of its time in storage and was not jostled about and put on display where the color of the flet and ribbions are subject to fading.
Estimated Value $3,500-UP.
Complete sets of the Panama-Pacific coinage were issued in both copper frames (which carried a premium) or leather cases and sold for $200. Since only 483 of the $50 rounds were minted, and of course some were sold individually, the number of copper frames issued was far less. We suspect that no more than 150 were actually issued with many of these being destroyed and discarded over the years.

1926 Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle. PCGS graded MS-64. Seldom found this nice, with abundant luster and excellent clean surfaces. One minor copper spot on the obverse, and some greenish toning near the devices on the reverse. Years of experience tell us that vVery few of these are found without the numerous contact marks on the central devices, which makes near gem coins like this a real rarity.
